Mobile World Congress: Nokia – N86 8MP, E55, Ovi Store and etc. 2
It’s been a hell of a week for Nokia at Mobile World Congress, with loads of new unveilings that includes the N86 8MP, E55, and the (popular) Ovi Store.
Here are the round-ups:
Nokia E55: The newest in the Eseries range, the Nokia E55 sports a raft of new features and is the smallest Nokia messaging device.
Nokia E75: A new breed of Eseries device. Just as the Nokia E71 broke new ground, the Nokia E75 is set to follow suit, cementing its unique place on the email and messaging scene as an ultra compact communicator.
Nokia 6710 Navigator: A device that is as dedicated to in-car navigation as it is pedestrian guidance – when it launches later this year it will come with the Nokia CR-111 car holder accessory inside the box, which cradles the handset so it can sit smartly in view on your dashboard.
Nokia 6720 Classic: An understated yet quietly stylish S60 handset that doesn’t scream for your attention, yet its feisty array of unlikely features mean that this mid-range mobile sensibly commands serious inspection.
Nokia N86 8MP: Landmark Nseries is the first Nokia phone to break the 8-megapixel camera mark. But the N86 is by no means playing simple megapixel war games – this serious point ‘n’ shoot camera phone launches laden with top performance photography credentials such as a Carl Zeiss Tessar optics and a host of smart photo sharing talents.
Ovi Store: Offering a range of content including applications, games, videos, widgets, podcasts, location-based applications and personalised content, Ovi Store will be available on S60 and Series 40 devices. The first device to include the mobile storefront on board will be the Nokia N97, set to launch in June. Meanwhile tens of millions of existing S60 and Series 40 devices will be able to take advantage of the store from May.
Skype in Nokia devices: Announced plans to fully integrate Skype into select Nokia devices. Kicking off with the Nokia N97, Skype will be part of the address book in the device, enable users to easily see when their Skype contacts are online. It’ll also enable them to use 3G and WiFi to make and receive free Skype to Skype voice calls.
Nokia Awards: Nokia Sports Tracker bagged the top prize for Best Mobile Internet Service whilst Nokia was awarded the first ever award for Outstanding Environmental Contribution at this year’s Mobile World Congress.
Video interview with head of Eseries design: Both the Nokia E75 and the E55 come with new or updated form-factors and materials. Valtteri Eroma is a driving force in making such design decisions as he heads the design team for all Eseries products.
Head of Nokia Research video interview: The head of Nokia Research is a guy called Henry Tirri. He was in Barcelona this week spreading the message of what Nokia Research is doing and what the future will look like.
Universal Charging Solution (UCS): Marks a hugely welcomed development – this milestone collaboration will see 17 mobile operators and manufacturers, including Nokia, work with the GSMA towards an industry standard universal charger for new mobile phones.
